Almost my birthday

I got sidetracked on working out on my new regimen since I was snowed in for four days. I was able to walk to a coffee shop that was close by, but the gym wasn't convenient in any way, plus I would have had to have hauled all my stuff up there. So I got off track. My birthday is this week, though, so I am making a new fitness and healthy eating plan for turning 27. I love fresh starts.

I cannot believe that I will be 27! It's just so... weird. That age used to sound so old to me back in the day. The characters on 'Friends' are 27. It's an odd feeling when you've watched those shows since high school, and now you're the same age as them. I guess that's the point I am in my life. Settled into myself, but still finding what I want to do career wise. Well, technically I know what I want to do, but I am just not at that place yet. I'll get there eventually.

There's sort of a melancholy feel to turning another year older. People tell me that I am still young, but aren't the twenties supposed to be the best years of your life? I've had some amazing experiences, but if the twenties are the best then I only have a few years left. A birthday is kind of a reminder that life is finite and I'm 1/3 done with this experience called "life" already. It's a scary thought.

I wonder if that's just part of the game? As you get older, you realize that life is not forever, and that you eventually will no longer exist. It also could be my depression reaching it's fingers into my life, but I don't think that's what it is. I am probably the healthiest I've ever been depression wise, and I am very busy, which helps with that too. Working full time, school, book club, writing Wiki articles, Robert, the cats, and now joining a gay softball league keep my planner full for sure. How do people have time to be bored? I don't have enough hours in the day to finish what I want to.

The 22nd will come regardless of how I feel about it, so I am going to enjoy it. I have a school seminar on Friday after work, then on Saturday day (my actual birthday). After that gets out, Robert and I are going to the ballet that evening, and then Sunday I have a Thai dinner with some work friends. So it'll be a nice weekend and I should enjoy it. Plus, having someone around to celebrate with is always nice as well. It leaves less time for rumination. ;)
